On our beloved planet, there are a lot of things that amaze the imagination not only with their beauty, very unusual shapes or strange colors, but also with truly cyclopean dimensions. But how big are they? Until you get close (and feel completely tiny at the same time) - you will hardly understand.
We suggest you compare some very large objects with the growth of the average person. And then you will with all responsibility evaluate their true dimensions.
10. Shondong Cave in Vietnam
The largest cave in the world is located in the Vietnamese province of Quangbin (by the way, it was discovered only in 1991, and was first studied in 2009). The main "big hall" of the Shondong cave "swung" 150 meters wide, and its height is even more - 200 meters. It is so huge that even real underground jungle grows here (up to three meters in height), and a small river flows along its bottom. Does your imagination cope with this information? Then just look at this photo from the "Find a Man in the Cave" area.
9. "Heaven's Gate" on Tianmen Mountain
In China, near the town of Zhangjiajie, there is the sacred mountain of Tianmen (it is believed that anyone who has visited this mountain has touched the sky). And in the mountain there is a huge cave-window, located at a high altitude - Heaven's Gate. You can climb to them by funicular, but after that you still have to overcome 999 steps leading up. The height of this “window into the sky” is 131.5 meters, the width is 57 meters, and the length of the through passage is 60 meters. Figures are numbers, but to imagine it, you see, is complicated. Moreover, most of the photographs of the famous Chinese landmark were taken quite far away, and it seems to them, hmm ... not very big. And if so? Now you can clearly see how small people are compared to the Heavenly Gates.
8. Arches in Arches National Nature Park (USA)
Almost all of us saw photographs of picturesque sand arches located in the National Park of the same name (Arches or “Arches”) in the USA. There are more than 2000 and many of them are of very considerable size (although when we look at the photo, our brain "draws" a height twice as high as human height). Well, those who have already visited the "Arches" in person, have personally witnessed how much our eyes sometimes deceive us. And this photo is a clear proof of this.
7. Tree General Sherman
Many are aware that the largest trees in the world are redwoods. Well, the most huge among them is the giant sequoiadendron General Sherman. It is not the highest - “only” 84 meters (the ever-green sequoia by the name of Hyperion holds a record for height - 115.6 meters), but the heaviest and most voluminous. The circumference of the trunk of General Sherman at the ground is more than 30 meters. How much is this? And you look at the photo where at its foot small people, like ants, “swarm”.
6. Wind generator
Those who traveled around Austria or Germany (as well as many other European countries) by bus or car must have seen wind generators standing along the road or slowly twisting their blades somewhere (two or three together or even whole "fields") . Intuitively, we, of course, understand that these things are rather rather big. But from far away they do not seem so tall. Now look at the photo - this is the man, but this modern “windmill”. Is it not true, inspires? Still would! Its height is 131 meters.
5. Argentinosaurus
How big do you think dinosaurs were? “Very large!” - so even a first grader will answer. But how big were they? How can you imagine this, so much so that it’s more visible? Yes easily! Here in front of you, for example, is the reconstruction of the skeleton of the Argentinosaurus in the Carmen Funes Museum (respectively, in Argentina), and next to it is an ordinary girl. Feel the power and strength? The body length of the Argentinosaurus was approximately 30-35 meters.
4. Career truck
The mining industry remains one of the most important sectors for modern mankind, despite the rapid development of information technology, robotics and the like of modern chips. Without coal, ore, marble (gold, finally!), We are, alas, nowhere. And in order to export all this stuff quickly and in large "portions" from mines and quarries, well, sooooo big trucks are needed. Here, admire how huge they are (some of us have a smaller apartment).
3. Statue of David
Even those who don’t have a single foot in Renaissance art probably still have an idea (at least visual) of the famous David sculpture by Michelangelo (which is now in the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence, Italy). And somehow all the time it seemed that this statue was about human height (well, maybe a little taller). But no! The "growth" of this handsome man is 5.17 meters. Here, admire yourself - David and ordinary people.
2. Giant leatherback turtle
Turtles are different, for example, small domestic ones living in an aquarium and deliciously crispy lettuce. And there are huge ones: 2.5 meters in length, 600-900 kg in weight and with a five-meter "swing" of the front fins. This is the size of the largest modern turtles - giant leathery. Now look at the photo to finally understand whether it is a lot or a little, in comparison with a person.
1. Adult wombat
Many of us saw photos of a wombat - a cute little fluffy dog that looked like a little toothy bear and an overgrown hamster at the same time. Well, what size can it be? Probably not bigger than a cat? But they didn’t guess! This marsupial herbivorous animal can grow up to 130 cm in length and at the same time gain weight up to 45 kg! Presented? Such a normal “hamster”. And here is the visual evidence for you.
